Christmas 2010

Posted by Unknown , Sunday, December 26, 2010 7:20 PM

Christmas Eve we spent at Brett's sister Michele's house up in Apple Valley. Brett's mom had come in from Reno and we had a great evening going to their church for Christmas Eve services, playing games and eating yummy food. Christmas morning we drove out to Arcadia to have breakfast at Tutu's house, along with James' dad and the rest of their family. That's something we do most every year, Tutu makes the best bacon and waffles EVER. After that we came home, relaxed, and stared at my ultra messy house. It was then that I realized I had not planned a dinner for Christmas night. I guess I got sidetracked with all the flooding and crazy weather we had. I forgot to shop. After driving around awhile, we finally found a Del Taco that was open. Phew!

Our pastor at church did a great job last weekend reminding us that every time we think about the birth of Jesus, to always look ahead to the cross and the finished work of Christ. The gift of salvation, the gift of grace and mercy, and being content with all that God has blessed us with.

Rain Rain Rain. And Mud. And Rain.

.

Oh boy. Rain for seven days straight, and not drizzle, heavy, heavy, rain. Last night we were told that the storm that was supposed to hit overnight would be the biggest seen in a long time. They were right. Around 3am, the power went out. We heard a loud crack and rumble, I thought it was thunder. It wasn't, it was a landslide, and it took a power pole with it, which left the cables dangling in our street. No one could get by. Plus the roads were closed. Plus there were rivers all over my neighborhood. Plus hills were falling down. You get it. Crazy wet weather.

Kids Ministry Sisters

Seems like I'm doing something every night these last few weeks. Last night was our kids ministry leaders Christmas party. Have I ever mentioned that I work at my church? I don't think its possible to have a better job in the world. I watch two and three year olds on Wednesdays and Fridays every week. Our church has day care for moms who come to bible study, and our outreach program for moms of young kids. I am lucky enough to be a teacher to the little sugar boogers. Seriously, going to work makes me want to have ten more kids, I love the age group I get to teach. Not to mention, the ladies I work with are the most awesome people ever. I am incredibly blessed to serve with them.

See the pretty girl with the piggy bank? That's my boss Diana. She is a little piece of heaven. I also get to serve with my very good friend Lisa, and have made lots of other friends through this ministry. We always have breakfast and prayer in the morning before we start, a super way to start the day. I can go to these girls with any issue, they will always be there with encouragement or a gentle rebuke if needed. I love my church family.

When You're A Jet....

The picture of Cody here is gratuitous. I came home to him last night looking like that.

Just got home from Hollywood, where a friend and I went to see the West Side Story at the Pantages Theater. It's the first musical I've been to in years. It was lots of fun, even though it was rainy and I think I might be an annoying spectator. I found much of the play hilarious, I am definitely not a romantic.

Anyway, the Pantages was beautiful on the inside. All done in old Hollywood glamor, the ceiling was gorgeous, red carpet, brass railing, reminded me of the roaring twenties. We had good seats, and the show was wonderfully done. I even got chills when Tony and Maria sang "Tonight". Magical. I did giggle at the dancing, you just don't see dancing like that anymore. Brett said he would like to go and see a show there soon, Beauty and the Beast is coming up, as well as Shrek the Musical, which I am not sure I care to see, but I'll read the reviews and see how it looks.

I Hate Croup

Posted by Unknown , Tuesday, December 14, 2010 8:51 AM

See these pictures? The big one is from last night, the smaller one is from a little over a year ago. Crazy.

There is nothing scarier than waking up in the middle of the night to a son that can't breathe. This is the third time I've had to rush Matthew to the ER for an attack of croup. There's nothing else you can do for it, they have to have steroids to open up the airways. I seriously thought he would have grown out of it by now, but I guess not.

Strange thing this time, I woke up after midnight, stomach in knots, waiting. I knew it was coming. I can't tell you why. I laid in bed and waited. Then I heard a bark. I got up and stood over Matt, listening. He suddenly woke up, sat up and looked at me, and told me he couldn't breathe, he was already wheezing pretty bad. Just like that. Woke up Brett, got dressed, kinda, raced off to the hospital. I was curious to see how long it would take to get there from the canyon, we are a little farther out now. I did eighty almost the whole way, got there in less than twenty minutes I think. On the way, we prayed, thanked God for hospitals, and watched the meteor shower that just so happened to be on display last night. That was weird.

Anyways, Matt's much better now. He got his air treatment and steroids, and I am getting ready to go put in his prescription for the rest of his meds. I guess this is one of those things Matthew is going to be prone to when the weather changes. Not a whole lot I can do about it. Lame croup.

Disneyland

Last night we went to Disneyland, so I could get some family pictures for Christmas cards and all that. A good friend of mine kindly gave me some passes, her husband works for Disney and gets guest tickets sometimes. It was super nice of her. We did some rides, got some snacks, looked at the pretty decorations, and did our family picture. Twas a lovely evening!

Here's Main Street, all done up for the holiday.

James took this picture, I think it looks neato.

Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Matt in line for Nemo.

Teacups!

I had some other pictures taken by the Disneyland photographer, we'll see how they turned out later today. Otherwise I'll just use this one for cards this year. I think it turned out okay.

Game Night in the Canyon

Posted by Unknown , Sunday, December 5, 2010 12:10 PM

Last night, we hosted game night in the canyon. It consists of a bunch of dorky guys and a few girls that like to play xbox. We only play one game usually, Halo. If it were up to me, we would only play Call of Duty. Maybe someday. Anyways, we started at 8pm, had a bunch of yummy food, and played til after 1am. The funny thing is, its adults only. My kids were at grandmas. Not that they wouldn't love to play, we just don't want them there. Ha! It's serious gaming! No room for loud children and their crazy antics.

Here's Desiree, she and I set up in my room, the living room was full.

Aaron and Robby, waiting for set up to be done. It takes some time to get everyone networked in and organized.

We had nine players last night, so, nine screens and nine xbox's.

Even our new neighbor came to be part of the nerdiness.
