Over a week ago, I came home from work to find my favorite dog Cody limping. By midnight, he was completely paralyzed in both legs. I took him to the vet at dawn after a long night of worry and speculation as to what was going on. The vet diagnosed in five minutes, IVDD. Disc disease, calcified discs, the back problem lots of dachshunds have. They admitted Cody and started steroid treatments. No change. Stress, tears, kids terrified of losing their dog, hearing surgery will cost $6,000 to $8,000 dollars, and all treatments are time sensitive. We opted against surgery, it doesn't always work, and I don't have that kind of money. They said he could live a long healthy life with a little help and a doggy wheelchair. We grew hopeful and brought him home Friday. Reality set in.
Cody can't urinate on his own, he can't walk, he needs to stay still for at least a month with the hope that the steroids will work and he'll gain some mobility, or at least the ability to go to the bathroom on his own. Right now, we are having to express his bladder, it's so difficult to do. We are beyond stressed. We have to bring him in to the vet every day to have it done if we can't do it. We have only succeeded once. He also has no bowel control, but at least it happens on it's own! Brett is concerned we can't manage this change in our life. I don't know. It's so hard, Cody is only four, it's so sad to watch him scoot and cry because he's not able to do the things he needs to. We are praying for a resolution that will have a happy ending, but it's hard to see how that can happen.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Romans 8:37
37No, in all these things we are more than(BR) conquerors through(BS) him who loved us. 38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
John 3:16
16"For(AA) God so loved(AB) the world,[i](AC) that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not(AD) perish but have eternal life. 17For(AE) God did not send his Son into the world(AF) to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18(AG) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not(AH) believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Matt wanted an Iron Chef battle for his birthday. This kid is full of good ideas. We had about 40 people over, 5 chefs competed, 4 people judged. Bacon was the main ingredient. My stomach hurts.
Matt was a judge, he said the BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp was his favorite. I made them, but they didn't win. Sigh.

Brett made all the judging sheets.

The wannabe chefs.

Brett's bacon pizza. Totally from scratch, I was impressed.
